Zhao Liying, who just won Best Actress at the Feitian Awards, is back with a brand-new drama that looks to be a suspense thriller. The program was recently unveiled at the iQiyi iJoy Conference. The suspenseful set-up of What its darker visual aesthetic accentuates a Wonderful World 在人间. Ideal for the perplexing enigma that viewers will discover.
Is it reality or just dreams? The Enigmatical Universe of Jia Xiaoduo
In the opening scene of What a Wonderful World, Zhao Liying’s character Jia Xiaoduo claims that she frequently had the same dreams every time. Then, in the blink of an eye, other people’s images appear on the screen before the camera pans back to show Xiaoduo leaving the building and falling into — what? — a body of water? Was that another dream, and if so, what made it depict Jia Xiaoduo leaving the building in a spooky complex? Or is it all simply a creation of her imagination? There are many unanswered questions, and the mystery doesn’t stop there because more characters are involved.
The cast of What a Wonderful World
In the series, actor Yin Fang plays co-star Xu Tian, who, like Jia Xiaoduo, has secrets of his own. He meets Jia Xiaoduo—who appears to be “lost” and lonely—through a ride-hailing app in which she is his passenger and he serves as the driver. Additionally, Zhang Yishan portrays the worried Wang Yangming, Dong Zijian plays the paranoid Yu Dan, Sun Qian plays Liu Tiaoer, and Zhou Yiwei plays the scowling Shi Yiben. Every character makes an appearance at a separate time, which further complicates an already convoluted plot.
What a Wonderful World, which has just eight episodes, is a part of the streaming behemoth iQiyi’s plan to release dramas in far shorter runs. In 2025, it is anticipated to air.
