Metaphor: ReFantazio has nearly doubled the number of concurrent players of Persona games on Steam in within the first 24 hours of its release, greatly surpassing the player counts of Persona 3 and 5.
Originating in Persona developers, Atlus, Metaphor: ReFantazio demonstrates that it is far more than just another role-playing game. We rated the adventure “a game-of-the-year-worthy title and a smash hit for Atlus to end the year with” and gave it five stars in our review.
ReFantazio recorded 60,507 concurrent players in the first 24 hours of its release, according to SteamCharts, suggesting that gamers feel the same way about Metaphor. Furthermore, Atlas announced that they had already recorded a million sales in a single day.
Naturally, the 60,507 concurrent doesn’t equal the one million sales, but that’s only because Steam users are the only ones who have access to this information; the concurrent figure on all other platforms is probably far higher.
Notably, though, is that the player base of three enormous Persona games has been severely impacted by this all-time high.
The all-time peak for Persona 3 Reload is 36,703, per SteamCharts. It’s interesting to note that Persona 4 Golden reached an all-time high of 29,984, which is significantly lower. Last but not least, it makes sense that the highly regarded Persona 5 Royal has an all-time peak of 35,298—still less than 3—which illustrates how well-liked the experience is even now.
It’s also important to note that there are currently 14,000 active players, far more than the 1,000 occupying positions 3 and 4.
However, such figures pale in comparison to Metaphor: ReFantazio, demonstrating the already enormous success and widespread appeal of the experience. It’s even more amazing when you consider that the game isn’t even available to all players yet; PC players in New Zealand, Korea, Japan, and Central America can play it starting on October 12.
