Netflix is launching in 2024 with an eye toward a gloomy future. The streamer recently unveiled a new music video for The Kitchen, which imagines a crazy, cyberpunk version of London complete with motorbike gangs and loads of holographic displays. The film’s directors are Kibwe Tavares and Daniel Kaluuya, who also serves as a co-writer and co-producer. The streaming version will launch on January 19, 2024.

In this version of London, “the gap between rich and poor has been stretched to its limits,” according to Netflix’s synopsis, which leads to the movie’s titular location.

After every other social housing has been demolished, The Kitchen is the only one that remains. a collection of individuals that refuse to leave their hometown. Here, we meet a reclusive Izi who is staying here out of desperation and 12-year-old Benji who is searching for a home after losing his mother. We follow our unlikely couple as they struggle to overcome all obstacles in order to form a bond in a dangerous setting.

Newcomer Jedaiah Bannerman plays Benji in The Kitchen, while Top Boy’s Kane Robinson—also a singer—plays the lead role of Izi. The group is completed by Hope Ikpoku Jr., Ian Wright, BackRoad Gee, Cristale, Teija Kabs, and Demmy Ladipo.

There’s hope for people who relish dark future possibilities in the upcoming year. The Kitchen joins a lineup that also includes George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road prequel, Alex Garland’s Civil War, and a live-action Fallout adaption that will debut on Prime Video in 2024.
