Youku, a Chinese video streaming platform that recently unveiled its lineup of Hong Kong dramas to watch this year, is a major partner of TVB. Youku’s newest dramas should aid anyone trying to satisfy their Hong Kong drama fix, regardless of whether they’re fans of HK dramas or simply missing that “Hong Kong flavor” you grew up watching on TV and cable.
The News 2 Queen
With most, if not all, of its cast returning for the most recent season, the multi-award-winning smash show Queen of News 悰헻女王2, featuring Charmaine Sheh, Kenneth Ma, Selena Lee, and Samantha Ko, is back for a second season. Bosco Wong, who appeared in the QoN finale last year, is also coming back to the cast as a new character, so keep an eye out for him. According to producer Chung Cheng, the ensemble has already scheduled their time to begin filming at the end of 2024, and the screenplay is still being developed.
Heroes of the Forensic Six
Similarly, a sixth season of the police procedural series Forensic Heroes 法证先锋6 has been given the go-ahead. Like QoN, viewers of the hit show will be pleased to learn that most, if not all, of the original cast, including Kelly Fu, Jacky Cai, Bosco Wong, and Benjamin Yuen, will be back for the follow-up.
Heir to the Crown
In the meantime, the Modern Dynasty spinoff Heir to the Throne 家族荣耀湋继承者, reuniting Charmaine Sheh and Raymond Lam, has also been announced, if the power struggles of the wealthy and powerful are more your style. As the title implies, when a wealthy family with a gravely ailing head has not chosen a successor, what do you expect but intrigue and power play? The offshoot program will include feature appearances from Him Law and Gallen Lo.
The Moon’s Negative Side
The vengeance drama Darkside of the Moon (滑色月光), starring Tavia Yeung, Vincent Wong, Rosina Lam, Edward Ma, and Priscilla Wong, is the last but most definitely not the least. To care for her expanding family, Tavia has resumed taking on tasks after a protracted absence from the industry. According to earlier rumors, the show is a Hong Kong adaptation of the well-known South Korean drama The Glory, starring Song Hye-kyo. However, this was recently denied by show producer-director Chung Cheng, who made it clear that the screenplay is original and not a remake of The Glory as it was initially advertised.
Prism Breakers 执法者滬, starring Bosco Wong, Kenneth Ma, Moses Chan, Lawrence Ng, and Jessica Hsuan, Anonymous Signal 奪命提示, starring Joel Chan, Sinister Beings Season 2 逆天奇案II, starring Ruco Chan, and more are just four of the many projects that have been in the works.
