Following years of uncertainty, it has been announced that the police picture Formed Police Unit 和防暴혟 will open in theaters on May 1st, making the May holidays for theatergoers an action-packed one. In the movie, Johnny Huang Jingyu, Wang Yibo, and Elaine Zhong Chuxi play members of a small UN peacekeeping team that was ambushed unexpectedly while traveling to a war-torn nation.
It’s interesting to note that all three of the movie’s stars have credits related to the police or military. In actuality, Johnny Huang seems to frequently figure in police-slash-military themes. With roles in films like Operation Red Sea, My Dear Guardian, Ace Troops (starring Elaine Zhong), and The Thunder, the 31-year-old has all but earned the title of “Chinese entertainment’s Special Forces soldier.” I believe it’s fair to say he already knows a lot about the genre. In fact, he was even shown in some BTS pictures from the set painstakingly showing his co-star Wang Yibo how to mount and load a sniper gun in the proper attitude. While Elaine Zhong has made several appearances, Wang Yibo has already directed Born to Fly and Being a Hero.
Although Formed Police Unit is scheduled to premiere on large screens in 2024, filming for the movie really took place a few years earlier, from February 27, 2021, to May 6, 2021, before it was postponed. Before this, as seen in BTS images, Zhang Zhehan was a member of the main three and had just returned from the success of Word of Honor. However, he was eventually dropped from the project due to the scandal he caused in August of 2021.
