The K-drama on Netflix explores the practicalities of how people will react to the realization that the world will end in 200 days. In Goodbye Earth, actor Yoo Ah-in was chosen to play Yoon-sang. a biotech university researcher who resides overseas in the US. He also plays the long-term boyfriend of Ahn Eun-jin, who plays Jin Se-Kyung.

The plot of his character is outlined as him attempting to go back to South Korea in order to be with Se-Kyung. Even though they know the asteroid will wipe them all off. However, Yoo’s drug use controversy in 2023 led producer Kim Jin-min to publicly claim that Yoo’s character in Goodbye Earth had been altered.

The producer clarified that because Yoon-sang is so important to the K-drama, it was not possible to remove Yoo’s character completely. Here is a summary of Yoo’s character’s journey in Goodbye Earth. There will be spoilers ahead!

Sang-eun endures a great deal to go back to South Korea.

Sang-eun does, despite various obstacles, make it back to Se-Kyung before the end of the world.

Se-Kyung and the others are persuaded to believe Yoon-sang is missing in the first episode of the K-drama. When the news of the asteroid emerged, he and Se-Kyung were chatting via video chat. Before the video ends, Se-kyung is taken away during a raid on his lab at the same moment.

In Episode 2, the K-drama teases Yoon-sang’s comeback when he accepts a lift from someone. He reaches the inspection post run by the military. He can only give the military a formal document stating that he is a researcher working in the United States without a passport. However, they detain him for interrogation rather than letting him go.

They inform him that because of the nature of his work, he must check in daily at 5:00 PM to ensure his location. He and Se-kyung are reunited at the conclusion of the episode. But when she discovers the lengthy scars on his side, his tale takes a sinister turn.

His bruises and scars are still visible in the restroom, and one of the wounds has a red transmitter inside of it. Later on, it comes to light that the raiders tortured him while holding him captive.

The conclusion of Sang-eun’s tale in Farewell Earth

Before the end of the world, Sang-eun discovers the truth about Father Baek and works to make amends for others.

Yoon-sang discovers the truth about Father Baek’s disappearance and his church-swindling scheme for financial gain along the course of the K-drama plot. Yoon-sang’s profession as a researcher who looks for genetic errors in embryos is revealed in the K-drama.

His narrative has a connection to the living Father Baek. He is a member of a group of prominent politicians that are engaged in a dubious cult to protect the “perfect” people from the asteroid. Yoon-sang is even given an opportunity to accompany them. He informs Se-kyung later on in their conversation that he could never truly leave her.

A scheme is hatched by Yoon-sang, Se-kyung, and the others to give Father Baek what he deserves. They hold him throughout the confession to buy themselves some time and prevent him from boarding the plane. They ultimately depart without him.

In the latter episodes of Goodbye Earth, Yoon-sang marries Se-kyung, who is employed by City Hall. In Goodbye Earth, Yoon-sang lives with Se-kyung until understanding he has one more task to complete in order to keep her students safe.

He heads to the docks where the cargo ships they will utilize are located, while she goes to a club to kill a thug leader who will trade young children overseas using her students as targets. When the asteroid appears in the sky and the K-drama comes to an end with the sound of a gunshot, he is smiling and carrying bottle bombs.

Along with other notable K-dramas that will be released on Netflix, Goodbye Earth is currently available for streaming.
