You won’t believe that the release date was just revealed—it falls on “520 days,” or Chinese Valentine’s Day, too! The much-anticipated fantasy romance Fox Spirit Matchmaker: Red-Moon Pact 拐妖小红娘月红篇 has officially set May 23 as its launch date, so Wednesday couldn’t come any closer. People weren’t entirely certain that the rumors regarding the drama premiering shortly would come to pass for a little period of time. Given the current popularity of Joy of Life 2, which is currently running, there was much speculation as to whether Fox Spirit Matchmaker would avoid competing against the immensely successful sequel. This doesn’t seem to be the situation at all.
Synopsis of Fox Spirit Matchmaker: Red-Moon Pact
The plot, which is based on a manhua of the same name by Tuo Xiaoxin, centers on Tushan Honghong (Yang Mi), the leader of the Tushan fox clan, who meets Dongfang Yuechu (Gong Jun), a human, while he is being sought after by his adversary. They progressively come to love one another. The two loves must work together to overcome many obstacles and turn in order to keep their loved ones safe and preserve harmony between their two tribes.
Elevated Anticipations
Expectations for the magical romance series starring Yang Mi and Simon Gong Jun are likely to be rather high. It’s basically a no-brainer because the 37-year-old actress in particular is renowned for excelling in this genre. Furthermore, with everyone’s attention focused on Yang Mi, whose most recent projects didn’t live up to expectations, pressure is undoubtedly growing given the triumphant returns of her fellow “post ’85 born actresses,” like Liu Shishi in A Journey to Love, Blossoms Shanghai for Tang Yan, and the most recent The Legend of Shen Li, starring Zhao Liying.
Similarly, Gong Jun, Yang Mi’s co-star, has high expectations for himself as well because his follow-up dramas to the enormously successful smash series Word of Honor didn’t perform as well. After starring as Wen Kexing in the renowned BL drama, the actor, 31, had a meteoric rise in popularity. Nevertheless, his subsequent tragedies, including The Legend of Anle, were met with criticism.
So Many Pairs
The lovely pair posters for Fox Spirit Matchmaker: Red Moon Pact amply demonstrate the show’s commitment to a fantastical romance concept. In addition to the main protagonists, it stars Guo Xiaoting as a formidable nine-tailed fox who opposes Wei Zheming, a character with unmatched fighting prowess, Zhu Xudan as a princess and Yang Shize as her love interest, Chen Yao as a demon hunter entrusted with capturing Mao Zijun, and Chen Duling and Zhang Linghe as a couple in a forbidden love. Hu Lianxin also portrays the fox clan’s strategic thinker. Given that this is an ensemble cast, it seems likely that each character will have multiple tales covered.
