The most divisive scene in House of the Dragon Season 2 to yet is undoubtedly Blood and Cheese, but Phia Saban, a cast member, has had to explain her character’s response.
Fans of House of the Dragon Season 2 are still discussing the introduction of Blood and Cheese, despite its brief appearance. The portrayal of the book scene has drawn criticism for not being harsh enough. Some, who praise the amazing performances and eerie elements, are more understanding.
In any case, everything depends on Helaena (Phia Saban) and how she responds to her child’s beheading. Though some people condemned Helaena for giving up her son so abruptly, it’s a difficult moment. She answers Blood and Cheese’s question about which of her twins is the boy (and future monarch) pretty instantly.
Saban has an explanation for his decision, though, and it makes sense for the time being. What she hears from them, I believe, is that we are really dangerous men who are more than capable of murdering you all. Additionally, you have the choice to make things easier or tougher for yourself, Saban said to the HOTD podcast (via The Wrap).
In light of the situation, Saban believes that Helaena’s criticism is a little “unfair.”
“Clearly, it’s not an easy task,” she continued. “It seems unjust to say that someone more courageous would say, ‘No, you won’t have either of them,'” That’s not an option, I really don’t think it is at that particular time.
The fact that she is honest the first time, in my opinion, speaks volumes about how serious the situation is for her. Like, “I have no choice here; I am not going to screw this up.” This is about preserving the life of a child.
Helaena does, in fact, succeed in saving her daughter Jaehaera’s life. While the assassins are killing her son, she seizes the child, slips out the door, and crosses the Red Keep to reach her mother, Alicent. Even though the scene is just fictional, fans’ territorial feelings about it make sense.
