Trevor Lawrence, the quarterback for the Jacksonville Jaguars, was placed in concussion protocol after the team’s 23-7 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday night, according to head coach Doug Pederson. According to Pederson, the concussion happened on the team’s final attacking play of the match.
Lawrence completed 25 of his 43 pass attempts for 264 passing yards and a touchdown before the injury. In addition, he ran for 41 yards.
This Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers would be the first that the 24-year-old would have missed in his NFL career if he is unable to clear protocol beforehand. In his stead, C.J. Beathard, the seasoned backup, would probably start.
Beathard has made four appearances this season, the most recent being in Week 13’s 34-31 overtime loss to the Cincinnati Bengals for the Jaguars. He completed nine of his ten pass attempts for 63 yards in that game after Lawrence left with an ankle injury in the fourth quarter.
With an 8-6 record right now, the Jaguars continue to lead the AFC South. But with the Colts and Houston Texans having identical records, the division may shift if Lawrence is out this weekend.
