The live-action Netflix adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender is set to premiere in roughly a month, which can only mean one thing: a teaser is about to be released.
The majority of this clip is devoted to introducing Aang, the titular Avatar (Gordon Cormier), as a youthful hero getting ready to, well, save the world. It features a lot of eye-catching visual effects, dramatic lines, and at least one adorable animal. If nothing else, the teaser gives the impression that viewers who haven’t seen the animated series would find the live-action series to be a decent place to start.
This new direction for the franchise has come after a long journey. Although the adaptation was first revealed in 2018, the show’s original creators left the project in 2020, claiming disagreements in style. Following that, there have been a series of gradual casting announcements leading up to the release of the first official teaser in November of last year. (In the interim, Netflix has also successfully released a few other anime adaptations at that time, such as Yu Yu Hakusho and One Piece.)
Netflix will begin offering Avatar for streaming on February 22nd.
