One more week, one more Cadillac idea. Since this one is dubbed the “Opulent Velocity,” it must be very opulent, don’t you think? That’s correct—it’s an all-electric, two-door coupe with robotic exterior elements, a rather innovative cabin, and butterfly doors.
Let’s start with the exterior: a characteristically long, squat figure rides on wheels adorned with vampire fangs while wearing the “Gilded Pearl” coat. Another nice element is the fading paint behind the side windows, which appears to have been somewhat inspired by a desert storm.
Although Caddy has not yet provided details regarding the drivetrain or exact outputs, he has stated that should the Velocity ever go into production, it will have Level 4 autonomous driving. Put simply, that indicates that the experience is primarily hands-free.
We say primarily because using the full-length screen and Augmented Reality Head-Up Display to choose between the many “multisensory” driving modes requires some hand manipulation. When you hit the track, one of those modes, “Velocity,” even helps you improve your lap times by displaying a ghost car on the infotainment screen. Well-functioning, that.
Not too shabby either is the remainder of the interior. The futuristic features begin with the multipurpose Yoke steering wheel, which is finished in a shade of “Selene” (dark blue). The stylish front seats fit right up to the door, giving you a little extra security on those track days.
Some of the components that have been 3D printed for this car include silver pearl flakes made of flax fibers and a sofa that looks like it belongs in an expensive Martini bar for the passengers in the backseat.
Do you think Cadillac will finally put one of these V-Series vehicles into production in the next 400 years, instead of just playing around?
