There is hardly a game that doesn’t have a chance to return in some capacity in a world where even the tiniest fans are being catered to with sequels like Neo: The World Ends With You and No More Heroes 3. One recent example is the gradually growing fan following of the small but fervent Dragon’s Dogma, which has been waiting patiently for a sequel. Despite having some fantastic concepts and ideas and a re-release, this action RPG never achieved widespread success when it was released in 2012 next to some fierce competition. For a long while, this series was thought to be discontinued because its inventor and director moved on to concentrate on other video games.
Fans instantly assumed that a sequel would be revealed as soon as Capcom said that it will be commemorating Dragon’s Dogma’s tenth anniversary. Why else would Capcom commemorate the anniversary of a franchise that it has no plans to continue? It turns out that we were all right. The development of Dragon’s Dogma 2 has officially begun. Fans of the first film aren’t the only ones who are enthusiastic about this announcement; many others are wondering why they should be excited about the sequel. Here is everything we know about Dragon’s Dogma 2 for all of that and more.
The reveal of Dragon’s Dogma 2 took place during a special video hosted by Itsuno commemorating the first game’s tenth anniversary. He thanks all of his supporters in the video and provides information on how the original title was created.
The video, which you can watch for yourself, is essentially a brief account of Itsuno’s career and sources of inspiration. All of it is fascinating, but it has nothing to do with Dragon’s Dogma 2.
However, the significant reveal of Dragon’s Dogma 2 via T-shirts bearing the game’s emblem occurs at the very end of the movie. “I apologize for keeping you waiting,” Itsuno says. Dragon’s Dogma 2 is being worked on right now!
Although it may seem odd, this is not the first time Capcom has made a game announcement in this manner. Considering that Resident Evil 2: Remake was first made public through a T-shirt, this could be a new marketing strategy for the developer.
A real trailer was released in May 2023. This provided an overview of the setting, a few characters, and even the gameplay. Other than the fact that the Arisen appear to be a significant figure in the world, not much of the plot was revealed.
Many parts of Dragon’s Dogma 2 were covered at the November showcase that was devoted solely to the game. There will be a plethora of non-player characters (NPCs) to interact with and complete objectives for, along with mythological creatures from other cultures to battle, such as griffins, dullahans, medusas, and drakes. Although the major plot is yet unknown, it seems to involve politics, kingdoms, wicked dragons, and fates, making it significantly more intricate.
The action trailer, as the title implies, doesn’t reveal any new details about the plot. It does, however, at least showcase some fresh areas and monsters to behold.
GamePlay
Dragon’s Dogma 2 will be created using the RE Engine, the same engine that powers Street Fighter 6 and other games, as well as every Resident Evil game from RE: 7 onward.
The first trailer’s footage looks just like what fans had anticipated a Dragon’s Dogma 2 would be like. There are enormous monsters, expansive settings, an abundance of weaponry and constructs, and cities to investigate. It appears like more fun than ever to be able to climb and take down these monsters like a miniature version of Shadow of the Colossus. Even a few tiny glimpses of destructible surroundings and what appears to be magic to create items that can span gaps are shown.
Numerous magical choices are on exhibit in addition to your standard weapons, such as powerful spells and a bow that shoots homing magic arrows.
Before the game’s release, a few media sites were able to provide a sneak peek and report on Dragon’s Dogma 2. New ways that Pawns might help the player in the surroundings, such providing a boost to climb ledges, are among the highlighted new features. There are four skills or spells you can use in addition to light and heavy assaults, and combat seems largely unchanged. A brand-new feature exclusive to your character’s occupation is the Covation Action, which gives thieves a dodge and warriors a block.
The Trickster is one new profession that was introduced early. This class can conjure up illusions to strengthen pawns or confuse opponents. Another is the Warfarer, a figure that combines elements of magic and power. In addition to using a greatsword, they will possess the ability to perform strong spells, conjure up images, and even wield weapons from other professions. This profession is referred to as the “ultimate vocation” and is exclusive to the player character.
In Dragon’s Dogma 2, the developer of the character (and pawn) will have a lot more options than previously.
In multiple players
The Multiplayer in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is expected to be entirely asynchronous, similar to its predecessor. We would, however, be all for Capcom expanding the gameplay beyond the pawn structure and allowing players to form teams. Like in the Souls games, multiplayer will most likely be an optional feature at the absolute least. Large-scale celebrations during battle are depicted, along with a few little joyous exchanges amongst characters, so it may go fully cooperative.
