The Q ability of Smolder has been altered by the League of Legends developers to reflect the elemental dragon, but users genuinely adore the new ability—some have even dubbed it “peak.”
Riot August, the creator, recently disclosed a discarded concept for ADC champion Smolder that altered their ability dependent on the dragon spawn. The elemental dragon that had spawned in that particular game would determine Smolder’s Q’s special impact, which would significantly disrupt the champion’s power.
Unlike his normal form, which only deals damage, the Infernal version would detonate in a certain region, his Ocean version would slow opponents, and his Chemtech version would gradually poison enemies while causing damage. Another version allowed him to use Q towers, which made it possible for him to complete objectives very rapidly.
Due to a lack of funding and the design pushing the RNG too far, it was abandoned. Despite this, players continue to concur that the design was absolutely “peak.”
This would be consistent with the story that Smolder’s mother is an elemental dragon; since she isn’t shown in the game, she would raise his Q as it goes on. As a result, no two Smolder games would be exactly the same because each participant would have to figure out how to get around the Q they were given in each one.
One player said, “Imagine using Wind Dragon to play three games in a row with Smolder and get something like a Q that gives bonus movement vs poison, slow, or bigger aoe Qs.”
Even though the design was excellent in and of itself, many Twitter users acknowledged that it required an excessive amount of resources and randomness, but they were nonetheless unafraid to label it as “peak.”
