Filming on Simon Gong Jun and Peng Xiaoran’s Tales of Dark River (暗河传) is now complete. The series, which was adapted from Zhou Mu Nan’s novel and directed by Yin Tao, takes place in an assassination-themed environment. Su Muyu is played by Gong Jun. He is praised as one of the four demonic leaders, along with Ye Dingzhi, whose tale is developed in Dashing Youth, as anyone familiar with the Blood of Youth universe would know.
Su Muyu, the head of a prestigious assassin squad, is the subject of Tales of Dark River. He is enmeshed in a fatal succession dispute inside the Dark River organization. Su Muyu and his friends are thrust into a struggle for survival and beliefs as opposing clan heads deploy assassins to take control.
The plot sounds fascinating, no doubt. Additionally, it makes me think of the wuxia-style Japanese film Shinobi, which features assassins competing against one another. In the few post-production images, Gong Jun looks fierce as the black-and-red-clad swordsman, radiating icy sophistication. Additionally, I’m excited for a new coupling matching with Peng Xiaoran. Qiao Zhenyu joins them as a special guest. Chang Huasen (second lead again?), Yang Yutong, Kong Xue’er, Zhang Shian, and numerous more are also part of the cast.
The drama, which took 138 days to film, features 2,012 costumes, 142 well-developed characters, and 185 painstakingly created sets.
