It makes sense that MachineGames, the creators of Wolfenstein: The New Order and Wolfenstein: The New Colossus, were given the task of creating Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, a brand-new first-person action game featuring the most well-known Nazi puncher in pop culture. MachineGames is an expert at creating video games about punching Nazis. During an Xbox announcement live today, Microsoft debuted the official trailer for the game, revealing its title, release date (this year!), and the first look at how whipping goons will function in first person.
Everything about it looks very Indiana Jones, with puzzles to solve and action sequences that include Indy jumping from one plane’s wing to another, Marcus Brody making an appearance, and Wilhelm’s well-placed scream (because Indiana Jones stories are the only places where that overdone Easter egg is still acceptable). The game takes place between Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade, the developers explained during the Xbox stream. This essentially means that the Nazis are still wreaking havoc on the world and that Indiana is a college professor when he’s not tomb-raiding. It also looks like it will be a suitably Indiana Jones-esque globe-trotting adventure as Indiana investigates whatever the Great Circle is.
At some time this year, Xbox and PC users will be able to play Indiana Jones and the Great Circle (and that’s probably all, as Microsoft controls MachineGames through its parent company Bethesda). In case you were wondering, although the visage appears to be that of Harrison Ford, the voice does not match. According to EW, Troy Baker from The Last of Us is indeed the person, which makes sense considering how similar he sounds.
