Less than three months after Aaron Rodgers suffered a torn Achilles tendon in the team’s season opener, the New York Jets began the quarterback’s 21-day practice window on Wednesday.

Rodgers’ injury reserve status will be activated by the Jets until December 20.

On Wednesday, coach Robert Saleh informed the media that Aaron Rodgers would be limited throughout practice.

“I know we’re getting caught up in trying to create a narrative around it, but the true narrative is he’s old school in the sense that he’s driven,” Saleh stated. Is it a goal to be the first person to do it? Yes, that is OK. That explains his motivation.

It is a mindset that young men ought to be able to understand. He wants to be here, he wants to be around his teammates, and he loves this organization. He’s already made a lot of sacrifices for the organization, for himself, and for his teammates, and I believe he’s doing it again. It bears witness to his humanity.”

Additionally, Rodgers brought up the subject the day before during his weekly visit on “The Pat McAfee Show.”

“My top priorities have always been my health, followed by our survival, inclusion in the game, and our ability to play well enough to score runs. Can I intervene, defend myself, and compete at the level I believe I’m capable of? However, the first step is to assist so that I can defend myself and go around as I choose. It makes sense to go from here to the rehab, he added.

“And, you know, that’s going to involve actually getting back onto the field to start to do some things that are more football but again, we’re still not where I can make a decision on playing.”

Behind injured Zach Wilson and Tim Boyle, his substitute, the Jets are now 4-7 and out of the postseason picture. On Sunday, they play host to the Atlanta Falcons (5-6).

The four-time NFL MVP stated on Tuesday that he had not received the all-clear from physicians.

“I think the step is just getting back onto the field and doing some more real football things,” Rodgers stated. “Give a shoutout to my teammates and complete a few individual drills. This, I believe, is sort of the next stage to check what my lateral movement is like and how I react after doing some more football-related maneuvers. How does that affect my leg?”
