However, in an unexpected turn of events, the 37-year-old star’s name vanished entirely from the shortlist during the second voting round.

Many people are assuming that Liu YIfei’s abrupt withdrawal from consideration for the Golden Eagle Award was due to her American citizenship. After all, only inhabitants of the People’s Republic of China are permitted to participate in the award selection process according to the rules of the award.
