The next voice actor behind Sabo will be introduced by One Piece, featuring a talent with credits in Kingdom Hearts and Spirited Away.
The One Piece cast was forced to replace Toru Furuya, who played Sabo, after he resigned from the role amid controversy over an affair he had with a fan. During the relationship, he acknowledged using abusive language in a post on X/Twitter in May 2024.
He parted ways with the agency that represented him and left some of the best anime out there, such as Detective Conan and One Piece, as a result of the fallout. It has already been revealed who will take his place as the Revolutionary Army’s No. 2.
It has been revealed that Miyu Irino would take over as Sabo’s voice beginning with One Piece Episode 1116, which airs on Sunday, August 16, 2024. In the anime and video game industries, Miyu is considered a legend, and Eiichiro Oda’s cherished ongoing franchise adds to an already amazing list of credits.
For starters, Miyu plays Haku in Hayao Miyazaki’s Spirited Away, a Studio Ghibli production that is unquestionably among the greatest anime films ever made. In the Kingdom Hearts franchise, he plays Sora, another enduring role for a massive IP.
He has also appeared in a ton of other shows and movies, including Dragon Ball Super, Garden of Words, Haikyuu!!, Naruto, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, and many, many more. It’s funny to note that he has sailed with the Straw Hats before.
In One Piece from 2007, Miyu had a lesser, more transient role as Jiro. He’s returned, and this time it’s for good—17 years later.
