As Beautiful as You 潠比星光澎渽, starring Seven Tan Songyun and Xu Kai, is the next new release and is slated to premiere on tiny screens on July 2, 2024. Out of all the recent releases, As Beautiful as You is the sole urban drama. It explores the realities of the workplace and the obstacles faced by individuals pursuing their entrepreneurial dreams.
As Gorgeous As You Were
Tan Songyun and Xu Kai are ranked similarly by the show in terms of billing order. With actress Yang Zi, Xu Kai recently completed his most recent production, the urban drama series Best Choice Ever, which debuted in April to great reviews from viewers. Tan Songyun, meantime, has a history of success in her primetime comeback on Hunan TV. Examples of her previous works include the popular family-themed Go Ahead, her contemporary romance with actor Jing Boran in 2023’s Road Home, and even the CCTV series Flight to You starring Wang Kai.
He Ruixian and Gao Han are also members of the cast. Actor Gao Han is currently starring in his fourth drama with Xu Kai, which comes after Wonderland of Love, Ancient Love Poetry, and Falling into Your Smile. Ao Ruipeng has a cameo, and Kira Shi Shi and Wu Shile have special leading roles.
From Guide to Adorers
Tan Songyun plays techie Ji Xing in As Beautiful as You, who encounters a professional obstacle and ultimately decides to leave her job to pursue her aspirations. However, as the majority of startup owners will attest, the road ahead is difficult and is made even more so by a heartbreaking separation after a long relationship. I admire Ji Xing’s attempt to project confidence and her will to battle for her goals in spite of the difficulties, even though it’s obvious that she’s in uncharted territory. She must be experiencing imposter syndrome, am I right?
Fortunately, Xu Kai’s Han Ting, the president of Dong Yang Medical, saw her potential and supported her. He not only invested in her company but also served as a mentor and traveling companion. Even though Han Ting is a powerful CEO, Xu Kai’s portrayal of her lacks the icy, unfeeling tone that permeates office dramas. They know each other from school (he’s her senior in college, and they even won a contest together), so the romance that eventually blossoms between them should be a lot more plausible because he’s truly kind and rather sweet to her. Tan Songyun, who is 34 years old, is really five years older than Xu Kai, but given her youth and Xu Kai’s ability to play the commanding CEO, especially when he’s dressed to the nines, they could totally pull off the mentor-mentee dynamic.
