Recently released on Netflix, a new anime series featuring far fewer dungeons and dragons is based on the works of Nakaba Suzuki, the writer of The Seven Deadly Sins.
On Friday, June 21, 2024, Rising Impact, a sports anime with a golf theme, debuted on Netflix. The anime series is based on the debut manga written by Nakaba Suzuki, which is quite different from her later creations.
The narrative centers on Gawain Nanaumi, a youthful prodigy in golf. His first desire is to play baseball, but after seeing how well he can swing, a golf pro tells him he’s better off on the fairway, which lights a fire under Nanaumi’s belly.
The first manga series ran for more than 25 years, from 1998 to 2002. Rising Impact is the result of Nakabi and Netflix’s second cooperation, following the wildly successful adaptation of The Seven Deadly Sins, which ran for four seasons and numerous anime films.
On the other hand, since numerous of Nakabi’s other works, such as Chiguhagu Lovers and Blizzard Axel, also feature sports, this is really more in line with his overall style than Seven Deadly Sins. Another exception is Kongō Banchō, a thriller with gang violence as a backdrop.
It remains to be seen if Rising Impact can win over fans, but in the meantime, you can watch the first season’s twelve episodes. Concurrently, Nakabi has been producing Four Knights of the Apocalypse, a follow-up to The Seven Deadly Sins, the first season of which debuted on Netflix in January 2024.
