Amy Smart and Ryan Reynolds recently had a fantastic reunion.
The performers from the 2005 movie Just Friends made a cameo appearance in a humorous Aviation American Gin commercial eighteen years later, serving as a sort of small “sequel.” “Just Friendsgiving” is the name of the advertisement, which honors the movie that debuted in theaters eighteen years ago on November 23, the day that Thanksgiving falls on this year.
Fans may view the characters’ current relationship status in the video above. Reynolds appears in the beginning of the scene, standing in a joyous living room decorated with a Christmas tree.
“Whoa!” As she enters the room, Smart remarks. Reynolds welcomes her. “Hey, sweetheart, I was just observing the tree.” There is no scent quite like genuine pine.
She says, “Oh, I love our pine tree,” holding an Aviation Gin bottle.
Reynolds then asks Smart how her day was, staying true to her persona.
“I’ve experienced better days,” she answers. “Well, the Aviation American Gin ran out in the bar.”
He yells, “Oh no, that’s so bad!” with dramatic effect. “It’s awful that the aviation ran out.”
The living area vanishes and is replaced with a green screen as she breaches the fourth wall. “I apologize. Could we simply stop now? It’s strange, she remarks.
The star of Proposal tries to comfort her. “It will be our house when we upload; you will see all of the decorations and that kind of stuff. Promise me. It will appear perfectly fine. He continues, “I think we should just give it another go.
They restored the background and started over.
Hello, sweetie. How was work? Reynolds says again.
She forced a laugh as she responded, “Oh, it wasn’t great.” “You know, there was no more Aviation American Gin in the bar.”
With a fiercer delivery, he exclaims, “Oh f—!”
Sensible requests that the cameras cease recording once more. “I apologize. Might we cut? That was quite the response, she remarks.
You know, it’s been eighteen years. I started imagining it that way because I think the characters have evolved a little,” he says.
Smart still has a very confused expression and is obviously not persuaded. Are you ready to go again? “Roll camera,” exclaims Reynolds.
He says hello again, but she interrupts right away. Keep going. If I ran out, why would I still be carrying this? pointing to the bottle of liquor, she asks.
“Well, you made a stop at one of our many reputable retail partners on the way home from the bar to pick up some smooth Aviation American Gin,” he continues.
At last, Smart realizes that this isn’t the actual reunion of Just Friends.
“Is this a dumb advertisement for your gin company?” she queries.
“Well, let’s wait to pass judgment until all the information is in. Indeed, he acknowledges, “This is a self-funded sequel based on a shaky interpretation of IP law, so it’s basically an advertisement for my Aviation American Gin.”
“Whoa? “Dirty,” sneers Smart as she exits the stage.
Reynolds says, “Well, never work with your heroes,” as the tension rises.
“You’re not my hero, f—ing!” She answers off-screen as the sound of a glass gin bottle breaking can be heard.
A behind-the-scenes photo from the campaign, which airs as the original ad ends, provides a genuine look at the two 18 years later.
“Ladies and gentlemen, that concludes Ms. Amy Smart’s interview.” Reynolds applauds and they exchange kisses.
Reynolds is renowned for incorporating humor into his advertisements for Aviation Gin. He most recently appeared with Rob Thomas in a new liquor advertisement on FX and Hulu. In the commercial, Reynolds made fun of another Rob in his life, Wrexham AFC co-founder Rob McElhenney.
In one of the Mother’s Day advertising videos from last year, he co-starred with his mother Tammy.
