Sun Zhenni is quickly emerging as one of the actors to watch this year, with new dramas being revealed one after the other.
Early Career of Sun Zhenni: From Idol to Actress
The gifted Zhenni, who was born in Shanghai, began her career in show business as a member of the Chinese all-female idol group SNH48. She debuted on the idol survival show Produce Camp in 2020, finishing in the eighteenth position. Despite not making it to the new group’s debut, Sun Zhenni showcased her adorable and vivacious demeanor along with her lovely yet strong vocals.
Fox Spirit’s breakthrough performance in Until the End of the Moon
Sun Zhenni formally said in August of last year that she would be removing the SNH48 from her social media accounts to concentrate on advancing her acting career. Even though she was still relatively new, the 24-year-old began gaining attention for her “super foxy” portrayal of the nine-tailed fox Pian Ran in the 2023 film Till the End of Moon 长月烬明.
She transitioned from supporting roles to the female lead, which has opened up more options for her in C-dramaland. Sun Zhenni has already announced several new dramas, some of which are completed and awaiting an air date. Given that her breakthrough part was in xianxia, it’s also not surprising that they’re primarily costume dramas.
The Upcoming Dramas of Sun Zhenni
As a demon, Blossom in Darkness 十中拂花入梦来 with Li Hongyi, Pull Strings 师兄太稳健 with Ao Ruipeng, and The Blossoming Love 千朵桃花一世开 with Vin Zhang Binbin seem to be the most similar to Sun Zhenni’s fox spirit role. Chen Jingke’s opponent in Wo Zai Ding Feng Deng Ni 我在桶峰等你 is the only other modern drama in the group. Additionally, she shot The Substitute Love 替嫁小才女 with Zhang Zhihao in 2020, but it hasn’t been shown yet!
Sun Zhenni is undoubtedly a budding actress with potential. We’ll all have to wait and see if she can carry a show or not. I hope these programs be aired soon.
