Despite being at the center of a media maelstrom, Sydney Sweeney has now responded to recent comments.
Sydney Sweeney, the actress from Euphoria, responded to reports earlier this week that legendary Hollywood producer Carol Baum said the actress “isn’t pretty” and “can’t act” in a statement provided by a publicist.
“How sad that a woman in the position to share her expertise and experience chooses instead to attack another woman,” the message purports to say, according to Variety. It is disheartening if that is the only thing she feels qualified to teach her students after spending decades in the field.
“It says volumes about Ms. Baum’s character to unjustly disparage a fellow female producer.”
According to The Daily Mail, Baum’s entire statement was, “There’s an actress who everybody loves: Sydney Sweeney.” Sydney Sweeney is beyond me. I wanted to watch Sydney Sweeney’s [Anyone but You] movie, so I was watching it on the aircraft. I was curious about her identity and the reason behind the buzz surrounding her. I apologize to anyone who enjoys this romantic comedy where the characters despise one another, but I saw it and it was unwatchable.
“I asked my students to explain this girl to me. She lacks beauty and acting skills. Why does she look so hot? No one could respond. But after that, someone posed the question, “Well, if you could get your movie made because she was in it, would you do it?” It’s difficult to say no to that question since everyone wants to see the movie made, and who says no to a green light? No one that I am aware of. It’s up to you to get the film produced.
Baum reportedly “wishes she never would’ve made her original comments,” according to a later TMZ article.
Carol Baum is well-known for her work on films that include Shining Through, Father of the Bride, and Dead Ringers, directed by David Cronenberg. She currently works at the University of Southern California as an adjunct lecturer.
Sydney Sweeney’s 2023 romantic comedy Anyone But You made $218 million at the global box office. She most recently starred in Sony’s Madame Web and the horror movie Immaculate.
