Microsoft has released a new iOS app for its AI chatbot, Copilot, in a move to compete with ChatGPT on mobile devices. Previously known as Bing Chat, Copilot is now available for download on iPhones and iPads via the Apple App Store.
The launch comes just days after Microsoft also brought Copilot to Android apps, opening up access to the AI assistant across mobile operating systems.
With the rebranding from Bing Chat to Copilot, Microsoft aims to position the chatbot as a standalone experience similar to ChatGPT. In addition to the iOS and Android apps, Microsoft has developed a web version of Copilot separate from its Bing search engine.
On mobile devices, Copilot provides conversational AI capabilities allowing users to ask questions, summarize content, and generate text. The chatbot can also create images via integration with DALL-E 3, Microsoft’s text-to-image generator.
Unlike ChatGPT’s free version limited to GPT-3.5, Copilot runs on GPT-4, OpenAI’s latest large language model. This gives Copilot an edge in producing more natural, contextual responses.
The iOS app offers iPhone and iPad users full access to Copilot’s AI functionalities. It mirrors the capabilities of ChatGPT’s mobile application, positioning Copilot as a rival to ChatGPT on both desktop and mobile.
With Copilot now spanning web, mobile, and integrations with Bing, Microsoft aims to make its AI assistant ubiquitous across platforms. The technology giant is betting heavily on AI with major investments in OpenAI as a key part of its future strategy.
