Joy of Life 2, the largest C-drama hit of 2024 thus far, stars Zhang Haowei. Even though he might not be well-known to everyone, everyone knows him as the Crown Prince from Joy of Life. But this month, the 33-year-old actor has been at the heart of several controversy after controversy. First, there was a taped version of him criticizing another performer. In addition to paparazzo enticing their followers with insider information about an actor from a popular drama who is having tax issues, another recording has now surfaced, placing him in even more jeopardy.
Due to these fresh charges, Zhang Haowei became popular on the internet on August 20. According Chinese gossip blogs, Zhang Haowei is the actor who is allegedly having tax issues. Additionally, a purported audio tape of the actor has surfaced, in which he seems to talk of starting a company that employs “ladies,” which are thought to be prostitutes. They hope to gather “ladies” from all around the world, and they even discuss whether they should employ a “madam” too or just train one. Scandals that can destroy a career include tax evasion and approaching prostitutes; even worse is the suggestion that he would be interested in taking over as show director.
Zhang Haowei declared, “The innocent man is innocent,” on social media in response to these serious charges. Additionally, his studio released a statement refuting the accusations. They presented a receipt proving they had paid their taxes along with the statement that they had visited the police. His team penned:
- We have consistently upheld the idea of paying taxes in a reasonable and lawful manner. We have issued the tax payment certificate and have no instances of tax evasion. Innocent people will remain innocent. Please keep an eye on us.
- We think the public security agencies will provide a just conclusion with regard to the veracity of the video recording and other disclosures. We reported this to the police as early as a week ago, and it is a criminal case. Right now, we’re awaiting the findings of the follow-up. We are unable to release some specifics at this time since the case is still being processed. We think the results from the public security department will be notarized.
Zhang Haowei’s future in the Chinese entertainment industry is uncertain as the inquiry progresses.
