Fans of The Princess Royal have recently been treated to something special. Angel Zhao Jinmai and Zhang Linghe recently got back together for promotional appearances, and the show also presented the development that we had all been waiting for. After all, it has been annoying to witness the miscommunications between the two major characters. Crown Princess Li Rong is pushing her husband, Pei Wenxuan, in the direction of Qin Zhenzhen, while he is pushing her in the direction of Chen Heyi’s character, Su Rongqing, the second male lead. As if the memories of their former lives weren’t enough evidence, miscommunications have the power to end a marriage.
Thank god, though, for Pei Wenxuan’s tearful confession in the rain, which allowed Li Rong to finally see that, then as now, it was always her that he loved. In terms of making amends in their “second lives,” it’s undoubtedly a positive move that she returned for him as he was leaving.
With the highest heat index on the day of the 2024 Youku dramas’ launch, The Princess Royal got off to a great start. Though it’s only the fifth day of airing, it appears that recent story development helped propel the show to exceed 10,000 on the Youku heat index, allaying concerns that its intriguing idea and rapid pace were beginning to wane. Given that it’s a little simplistic, I think the politics are the weakest aspect so far. However, the two characters are delightful to watch if seen as a historical romance. They are an elderly married couple who could have endless conversations.
