The Marvel’s Spider-Man video game franchise from Insomniac has been a huge hit for many reasons, including its exciting stories and well-designed gameplay mechanics. The series’ unique perspective on well-known elements of Spider-Man legend, however, is one thing that has helped it take off. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is a great illustration of this skill since Insomniac doesn’t mind using major characters from the game in inventive ways. A notable example of this experimentation is Venom’s beginnings and development in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, but Insomniac also managed to include one more noteworthy departure for a character that appears in the post-credits sequence.
Following the catastrophic events of Spider-Man 2’s conclusion, Insomniac surprised fans by revealing Cindy Moon. Although her face is barely visible in the quick reveal, the recent addition to the Spider-Man mythos has significant ramifications. The main explanation is that, with Cindy Moon and her beginnings as Silk, Insomniac already looks willing to take artistic license. Given the developer’s past performance, this isn’t necessarily a reason for alarm, but researching Silk’s comic book background can shed some light on potential changes to her character in the upcoming Marvel Spider-Man movie.
Although Cindy Moon has only been around for a short while, her origins of powers allowed her to make an instant impression when she was first introduced. It was revealed that Cindy Moon was bitten by the same radioactive spider that gave Peter Parker comparable spider powers, more than fifty years after comic book readers first witnessed Peter Parker being bitten. She was abducted by Ezekiel Sims, the antagonist of the Madame Web movie, not long after her abilities started to manifest, and she spent several years trapped in a bunker. After being freed by Peter Parker, she developed into a powerful hero, adopted the name Silk, and joined the numerous spiders who inhabit the multiverse.
How Spider-Man 3’s Insomniac’s Silk Could Be Different
As early as the post-credits scene of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Insomniac conveys how Cindy Moon might be different from the books. It’s enough of a departure that players can infer some plausible conclusions, even though they only catch a fleeting glimpse of her with her father when they join Miles and his mother for dinner. First of all, it doesn’t seem plausible that Cindy Moon, in Insomniac’s Spider-Man universe, was bitten by the same spider as Peter Parker. She might still get the same abilities, but it’s still unclear where they came from. In addition, she seems to be closer in age to Miles than Peter, which would indicate that they have a more intimate relationship.
Cindy Moon of Insomniac May Cause Problems for Miles Morales
The attraction that exists between Cindy Moon and Peter as a result of their shared spider bites is a fundamental feature of Cindy Moon’s comic book persona. Although it fits with the popular plot device of Peter attempting to manage multiple relationships at once, Insomniac’s introduction of Moon might point in a different direction. If she’s closer to Miles’ age, even though they might have had the same spider bite, Miles might have to choose between Cindy Moon and his love Hailey if they decide to collaborate if she turns into Silk. It would carry on the concept of Spider-Man attempting to juggle his numerous commitments and may add a good bit of drama to Spider-Man 3.
A month after its release, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has barely settled, but it’s obvious that Insomniac has big plans for Spider-Man 3. There’s plenty for fans to anticipate, including Cindy Moon’s debut and Green Goblin teasers. It remains to be seen how Insomniac handles Silk and her relationship with the other Spider-Men, and how that will impact Spider-Man 3’s story.
