YouTube is escalating its efforts to counteract mobile ad blockers. In a recent update, the platform has indicated that users who attempt to watch videos via third-party ad-blocking applications might experience playback interruptions or receive a message stating, “The following content is not available on this app.”

Previously, YouTube initiated a worldwide campaign to motivate viewers to watch ads or subscribe to YouTube Premium. The platform also started deactivating videos for viewers using ad-blocking extensions.

YouTube’s current stance is that its policies prohibit third-party applications from disabling ads, as this hinders content creators from earning revenue through viewership. This policy seems to specifically address mobile ad blockers like AdGuard, which offers an ad-free viewing experience within its app.

YouTube emphasizes that it permits third-party applications to access its API only if they comply with the API Services Terms of Service. Apps found in violation of these terms will face necessary measures to safeguard the platform, its content creators, and the audience.

As an alternative to encountering these restrictions, YouTube recommends users consider subscribing to YouTube Premium for an uninterrupted, ad-free viewing experience. While this update may disappoint users accustomed to ad-blocking apps, YouTube appears determined to continue its fight against ad blockers.
