A thrilling slate of dramas from tvN is coming up in 2024—get ready!

Fans have a wide variety of dramas to look forward to thanks to tvN’s list of upcoming shows for the new year, which was released on January 10.

“Captivating the King”

Written by Kim Sun Deok, the author of “The Crowned Clown,” “Captivating the King” will depict the brutal love tale of Kang Hee Soo (Shin Se Kyung), whose original plan of retaliation against King Yi In (Jo Jung Suk), who is a miserable monarch who feels empty inside despite his high position, and Yi In (Jo Jung Suk). The first two episodes of “Captivating the King” will air back-to-back on January 21. The show will then air every Sunday at 9:20 p.m. KST.

“Queen of Tears”

Kim Soo Hyun and Kim Ji Won’s Magical Romance in “Queen of Tears”

The story of “Queen of Tears,” which is based on the works of “Crash Landing on You,” “My Love From the Star,” and “Producer” writer Park Ji Eun, follows the romance between Hong Hae In (Kim Ji Won), a chaebol heiress dubbed the “queen” of Queens Group’s department stores, and Baek Hyun Woo (Kim Soo Hyun), the son of the head of Yongduri and the “supermarket prince,” as they navigate a crisis three years into their union and miraculously reignites. “Queen of Tears” is scheduled to debut in March and stars Kwak Dong Yeon, Lee Joo Bin, Park Sung Hoon, and more.

“Jeong Nyeon”

“Jeong Nyeon” (romanized title) is a story about Yoon Jeong Nyeon (Kim Tae Ri), a young girl from Mokpo who has a gifted singing voice but lacks money and education. The story is set in the 1950s and is based on a webtoon. The historical drama centers on the events that unfold when Yoon Jeong Nyeon, a young woman with aspirations of becoming wealthy, joins a women’s traditional theatrical company. The Red Sleeve’s Jung Ji In will direct “Jeong Nyeon,” which features Kim Tae Ri, Shin Ye Eun, Ra Mi Ran, and Moon So Ri.

“Mom’s Friend’s Son”

The new romantic comedy-drama “Mom’s Friend’s Son” (literal title) centers on Bae Seok Ryu (Jung So Min), a lady trying to turn her troubled life around, and Choi Seung Hyo (Jung Hae In), the son of her mom’s friend, who is seen as the dark chapter in Bae Seok Ryu’s life. Director Yoo Je Won and writer Shin Ha Eun of “Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha” will lead the drama.

“A Life of a Resident That Will Be Wise Someday”

Hospital Playlist Spin-off Go Yoon Jung

The drama “A Life of a Resident That Will Be Wise Someday” (literally translated) will portray the tumultuous friendships between doctors and residents at the Jongro branch of Yulje Medical Center, as well as realistic and relatable hospital lives. The new project will be co-created by writer Lee Woo Jung and director Shin Won Ho, who produced the “Hospital Playlist” and “Reply” series. Han Ye Ji and Jung Joon Won will be joining the cast roster in addition to Go Yoon Jung, Kang You Seok, and Shin Si Ah, who were previously confirmed to star in the drama.

“Carry Sun Jae and Run”

“Carry Sun Jae and Run” (literal title) is a new time-slip romantic drama that is based on the popular online book “The Best of Tomorrow.” It follows Im Sol (Kim Hye Yoon), a devoted fan who is grieved by the death of her favorite celebrity Ryu Sun Jae (Byun Woo Seok), as she travels back in time to save him. Lee Si Eun, the author of “True Beauty” and “Top Star U-Back,” wrote the drama.

“Thank You”

The office investigative drama “Thank You” (literal title) is set against the backdrop of JU Construction Company’s audit office, where corruption is pervasive. The narrative demonstrates the disorganized collaboration between the audit team’s amiable team members and their chilly team leader. Shin Ha Kyun will portray Shin Cha Il, the head of the audit office team of JU Construction Company.

“Parole Officer Lee Han Shin”

The story of Lee Han Shin (Go Soo), who has the immense authority to decide whether or not prisoners would be freed on parole, is told in the actual title of “Parole Officer Lee Han Shin,” which depicts his pursuit of justice in his own unique manner. Screenwriter Park Chi Hyung and director Yoon Sang Ho, of “Curtain Call,” “Jinxed at First,” and “River Where the Moon Rises,” will collaborate.

“Player 2: War of Gambler”

Following the triumphant premiere of Season 1 in 2018, “Player” returns for a sixth season, aptly named “Player 2: War of Gambler” (literal title). The drama revolves around the finest “players,” such as con artists, hackers, fighters, and drivers, coming together to thoroughly clean up the filthy money that the biggest bad guys possess. Song Seung Heon, Lee Si Eon, Tae Won Suk, Oh Yeon Seo, and Jang Gyu Ri will all be featured in the drama.

“Won Kyung”

The story of Queen Won Kyung (Cha Joo Young), a kingmaker who dreamed of a new world in the early Joseon Dynasty, is told in “Won Kyung,” the Romanized title. She made her spouse Lee Bang Won (Lee Hyun Wook) a king with whom she shared the power of the crown. Even though Queen Won Kyung’s complete name was omitted from historical records and she was only known as “King Taejong’s wife” or “Mrs. Min,” the drama illuminates her life and how she maintained her independence in the face of terrible betrayals and harsh reality.

“Wedding Impossible”

The literal title of the film is “Wedding Impossible,” which centers on two characters: her future brother-in-law Lee Ji Han (Moon Sang Min), who is adamantly opposed to his older brother’s marriage, and unknown actress Na Ah Jung (Jeon Jong Seo), who decides to stage a fake marriage with her male friend in order to become the main character for the first time in her life. Moon Sang Min will portray the youngest grandson of LJ Group’s chairman, who conceals his identity as a third-generation chaebol, while Jeon Jong Seo will play the unidentified but gifted actress Na Ah Jung.

“Because I Want No Loss”

“Because I Want No Loss” (literal title) is a romantic comedy-drama written by Kim Hye Young, the author of “Her Private Life.” It follows the tale of Son Hae Young (Shin Min Ah), who pretends to be married because she can’t bear any more losses, and Kim Ji Wook (Kim Young Dae), who pretends to be her husband because he doesn’t want to hurt her. It was just confirmed that Lee Sang Yi will be joining the cast.

“Graduation”

“Graduation,” the literal title of the new drama by director Ahn Pan Seok, who helmed popular romantic dramas including “Something in the Rain,” “One Spring Night,” and “Secret Love Affair,” is set against the backdrop of Daechi, a district known for being the center of private education in Korea. The story revolves around a teacher who works nonstop to help a kid named Lee Joon Ho (Wi Ha Joon) get into a prominent university. In a strange turn of events, Lee Joon Ho eventually resigns from a big firm and rejoins the school as a rookie instructor because, as an adult, he can’t stop thinking about his first love, his academy teacher Seo Hye Jin (Jung Ryeo Won).
