According to Larian Studios CEO Swen Vincke, there was once concern that Baldur’s Gate 3 might be too short because of all the deleted material.

Baldur’s Gate 3, a vast game that can take over a hundred hours to complete if you’re continually exploring every nook and cranny, is divided into three acts.

Nevertheless, a recent BAFTA interview with Swen Vincke disclosed that the game was originally intended to be longer and that some portions had to be trimmed, which initially caused the CEO to worry that the game would be too short.

Swen brought up the topic of the game’s “many things that people may not know” during the conversation. Act 2’s building of Moonrise Towers appears to be one of them.

He remarked, “Well, here’s a really strange fact: Moonrise Towers used to be two towers.” We only shipped one tower as of right moment. Additionally, we eliminated the second tower’s remains which had been there for a considerable amount of time.

Swen stated that the removal of the extra tower was done “purely productionally.” He clarified that the decision to remove the section was made because the game “was getting too big.”

Swen also revealed that Larian had originally planned to develop a lot more areas. “At first, I was worried that the game would be too short, but I’ve always been notoriously terrible at estimating how long our games should be.”

Speaking of trimmed content, developers have already disclosed that Wyll and Gortash had additional locations in portions of it. Among other things, Wyll was going to have his own space at Red War College and players would first see Gortash in Candlekeep.

Larian has stated that a sequel or DLC for Baldur’s Gate 3 would not be produced, hence these additions are unannounced. That doesn’t stop the community, though, from searching through the game files for some of the deleted material that wasn’t included in the final version.
