Current iPhone models can now download Apple’s iOS 17.2 upgrade. The new Journal app from Apple is included in the update; it offers the ability to record spatial movies along with prompts derived from phone data to encourage you to write about life experiences.
The Journal app, which was first unveiled at WWDC in June, is a feature that focuses on health and wellness and encourages you to reflect on both significant and little moments in your life. Its superpower is its capacity to recognize “moments” based on your phone’s data, like areas you’ve visited, images you’ve taken, or exercises you’ve completed. However, we found its interface a touch simple when we tested it out in beta for ourselves. Based on these instances, it can then recommend writing.
The ability to capture spatial films is another feature that was unveiled in September along with the iPhone 15. To produce 3D video, this records video simultaneously using the phone’s primary and ultrawide cameras. The video may not seem like much right now, but when the Vision Pro headset launches next year, it is intended to be played back on it.
The iPhone 15 Pro’s Action Button can be configured to translate phrases. New weather widgets are also available in the release candidate version of iOS 17.2. New features for the Messages app include a convenient catch-up button that allows you to quickly jump to the first unread message in a conversation. Along with what appears to be quicker 15W wireless charging without the requirement for a MagSafe-branded charger, the update also adds Qi2 support for the iPhone 13 and 14.
The same selection of iPhone models as iOS 17 are compatible with iOS 17.2. These include the second-and third-generation iPhone SE, as well as flagship models dating back to the iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR from 2018. Go into the Settings app, select General, Software Update, and then download it. Then, install it by following the prompts. These updates occasionally roll out gradually, so you might have to wait for a notification icon to show up on the Settings app before knowing that your device has it.
