As of right now, Godzilla Minus One is officially available for streaming on Netflix everywhere save France and Japan, according to a statement provided to The Verge by movie distributor Toho International. Digital versions are also available for purchase or rental at $14.99 and $5.99, respectively, in both color and black and white on Apple TV, Amazon, Google Play, and Apple TV.
Godzilla Minus One, written and directed by Takashi Yamakazi, revisits the history of the enormous radioactive kaiju. It takes place shortly after the US bombs Hiroshima and Nagasaki with nuclear weapons, at the end of World War II. The movie centers on Kōichi Shikishima (Ryunosuke Kamiki), a kamikaze pilot who, instead of sacrificing himself for the war, chooses to land on Odo Island and ends up being one of the island’s lone survivors of a Godzilla attack.
When the film debuted in theaters in December, critics gave it positive reviews. Charles Pulliam-Moore of The Verge referred to it as “a spectacular disaster movie” that “feels more than the sum of its parts.” Additionally, Godzilla Minus One won other accolades, including a Visual Effects Academy Award in March.
