Fans of the manga series Demon Slayer are in for a “hilarious” treat as the creator has created gender-swapped replicas of the major cast members.
Mangakas typically include small anecdotes or humorous sections in their volumes as bonuses. Koyoharu Gotouge, the creator of Demon Slayer, followed suit with some of his other highly regarded works. Some are hilarious beyond belief, while others provide us with a deeper understanding of the characters.
Here, for one of the volume bonuses, the author gender-swapped four of his primary characters. Inosuke appears first, not really changing from his typical appearance—aside from his boar head, of course. Though it’s to be anticipated, Inosuke’s disparate appearance and demeanor are always amusing.
Nezuko comes next. As anticipated, she had a very attractive boy’s face. In her gender-swapped incarnation, she also has a more somber appearance. The fascinating parts are in the final two images. Zenitsu has freckles in addition to wearing pigtails as a girl. All kidding aside, it’s not that horrible.
But Tanjiro emerges as the most noteworthy character to have had his gender-reversed. Everything about his female equivalent, “Tenko,” has altered, save for his hair and earrings. Tenko has prominent teeth, small eyes, and heavy eyebrows.
After watching this, it goes without saying that fans favor the boy version. Somebody on Reddit said, “Tanjiro got done dirty.”
“Bad boy… “He was done dirty,” chimed in another. “Why’d they do Tanjiro like that?” exclaimed a third.
“Does this mean Tanjiro is canonically ugly?” a user asked. “I don’t think so,” someone else said. Yes, Daki said, his eyes were gorgeous. He doesn’t look at all like his fem version.
“Friendly reminder, Inosuke was called beautiful, while Daki called Tanjiro ‘ugly’ despite having pretty eyes,” said another. Thus, yes. The universe thinks our boy is unattractive. Therefore, he and Kanao have the stereotypical “cute wife, ugly husband” relationship.
