HBO promised a first look at House of the Dragon, the Game of Thrones prequel, on December 2. The network unveiled two posters for the second season of the show.
At Comic-Con Experience in Brazil in 2023, the first glimpse of Season 2 of House of the Dragon—which will debut on HBO in the summer of 2024—will be presented. Fans may savor these brand-new posters featuring Emma D’Arcy’s Rhaenyra Targaryen and Olivia Cooke’s Alicent Hightower till then. Rhaenyra’s reads “fire to fire,” whereas Alicent’s says “blood for blood.”
The posters hint at the developing rivalry between the ladies who were previously close friends in addition to making reference to George R.R. Martin’s book Fire and Blood, which serves as the basis for the television series.
200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon follows the Targaryen dynasty in Westeros following the Seven Kingdoms’ unification. Obviously, this occurred long before Daenerys was born, but it provides further context for her family’s history beyond what was briefly mentioned in Game of Thrones.
“Early on it felt too faithful to its predecessor, but after ten episodes House of the Dragon has forged its own identity and established itself as a worthy prequel to Game of Thrones,” IGN wrote in its review of House of the Dragon Season 1. That’s mostly because of the excellent script, the cast, who are vastly overqualified, and the entire group of dragons.”
