The goal of the center’s fundraising is to gather funds so that feral cats can receive the finest possible medical treatment.

The Homeward Bound Pet Adoption Center has managed to accomplish this while providing consumers with a clever and original Valentine’s Day present.

The option from the shelter is to “neuter your ex.” In exchange for naming a feral cat after your former partner and paying a $50 donation, the promotion will neuter or spay the animal.

For the Homeward Bound Pet Adoption Center, “it’s absolutely taken off,” said Eric Schwartz, director of development, to CBS News.

Furthermore, “We were discussing at a meeting about some entertaining ways to earn money on Valentine’s Day. We had been talking about a petagram. A volunteer’s suggestion to “neuter your ex” was brought up by a board member.

“So it’s just kind of taken off, and we’re certainly appreciative of the attention that it can bring to these animals.”

Among the promotion criteria provided by the shelter is this one: “Please be aware that full names will not be used. Just use your first name or nickname.”

People’s reactions to the center’s social media promotions, which include the tagline “Because some things shouldn’t breed,” are mixed.

“I adore this,” someone commented.

“What a great idea,” said another.

“Best idea ever,” said a second person.

“At this moment, I can be heard laughing heartily at my phone.””This is incredible,” another person commented.

The Significance of Spaying or Neutering Your Cat

For your cat’s own health, The Humane Society of the United States advises considering spaying or neutering them.

“The average lifespan of cats and dogs who have had their spayed or neutered is demonstrably longer than the lifespan of those who have not,” the agency adds, providing evidence in the form of relevant research.

According to a study “conducted by Banfield Pet Hospitals,” “spayed female cats in the study lived 39% longer and neutered male cats lived 62% longer,” using a database of 2.2 million canines and 460,000 cats.

Developing pyometra (a potentially fatal uterine infection) and uterine, mammary gland, and other malignancies of the reproductive system are among the cancer types that it helps prevent, which is another reason.

Neutering male pets “eliminates their risk of testicular cancer and eliminates the possibility of developing benign prostatic hyperplasia, which can affect their ability to defecate.”

Not only is this fundraiser hilarious, but it’s also benefiting a worthy cause!
