The fact that two well-liked support heroes—Venture, for example—continue to receive new skins during the Season 12 event has angered Overwatch 2 players. They have been available for months, but they still haven’t received a Legendary skin.
In addition to welcoming Juno as a new hero, Season 12 is noteworthy for the return of the Temple of Anubis map. Blizzard is releasing new Battle Pass skins for Doomfist, Ashe, Ana, Illari, and Sigma in celebration. Additionally, Reaper will receive a Mythic Anubis skin.
To the dismay of gamers, the new season also comes with two Mercy skins and one Kiriko skin. Fans are upset because while Mercy and Kiriko currently have 38 skins apiece and 20 skins apiece, respectively, their collections are growing at the expense of other heroes.
“So many other heroes have so few skins but they give over and over to Mercy and Kiriko,” a Reddit user complained in a post on the Support heroes’ new skins.
One of the skins, the Marilyn Monroe skin for Mercy, doesn’t function for the Season, as mentioned in a response to this post: “This skin is an extra from the Christmas release of Formalwear skins.”
Regarding the Mercy and Kiriko skins, other fans have voiced their opinions. Another Redditor expressed their displeasure about these two characters receiving Season 12 skins rather than heroes like Venture and Ramattra in a related post.
The user described how, at first, they were thrilled that either Venture or Ramattra would receive skins because it was “the perfect theme for both,” but that none of them ended up getting any.
The fact that Ramattra, a Tank hero with Egyptian influences in his skills, isn’t receiving a Season 12 skin has already infuriated fans of the character. In the past, players have suggested that he get an Anubis skin.
Because the hero is canonically an archaeologist, Venture was also suggested in both Reddit postings as a better choice for an Egyptian-themed skin than either Kiriko or Mercy. A skin from Egypt would do them nicely.
One commenter even went so far as to claim that the absence of their skins was causing Venture mains to “rot away.” Despite the fact that Blizzard debuted Venture three seasons ago, there isn’t a single Legendary Skin for them.
Why, therefore, did Blizzard choose Kiriko and Mercy so frequently? One response gave players a hint as to why they had previously been given preference, not just in Season 12. It said, “Mercy skins finance this game.”
“Mercy and Kiriko mains are the reason this game is FTP,” quipped someone else in a reply. Since fans are more likely to purchase the skins of their favorite characters, it doesn’t seem surprising that beloved heroes obtain a higher number of skins than less well-liked ones.
Along with these new skins, Overwatch 2’s Season 12 debut on August 20th will also feature Clash Mode and a brand-new hero called Juno, who has special Support skills of her own.
