By tricking Apple into believing that their iPad was in the EU, a YouTuber was able to install Fortnite on the device. But the Cupertino business fixed this issue with a patch very soon after.
Reintroducing Fortnite to iPhones and iPads, Epic Games last week announced the opening of its iOS app store in the European Union. You are still unable to install the game in regions like North America and the UK.
Despite the game’s official non-availability in the UK, YouTuber Saunders Tech managed to find a way to play it there.
With the use of their iPad, the YouTuber was able to get beyond Apple’s EU region lock. To download Epic’s battle royale, they first configured a network with a VPN connection and made a Swedish Apple ID.
Then, on a Windows computer, they downloaded and set up 3uTools. For those who do not know, 3uTools is a free Windows utility that facilitates jailbreaking and flashing iOS devices. It also lets you manage your device.
Following the unplugging from the PC, the iPad was factory reset. They carefully configured the iPad with the required settings after doing a reset.
After that, Saunders Tech configured the iPad with the Swedish Apple ID and sideloaded the VPN. After completing that, they went to the Epic Games Store. I was able to get the Fortnite game from Epic Games after doing the required steps.
The exploit was resolved by Apple in a day.
Within 24 hours of their video going live, Apple patched the exploit, according to a post on X by Saunders Tech. When they attempt to install Fortnite, they are currently receiving an error.
“Unfavorable information! Within a day, Apple fixed issue with a server update. The IP must now match the one used to log in the first time after providing the 2FA code. If not, an error message appears,” the YouTuber stated.
You don’t have many options if you want to use iOS to access Fortnite outside of the EU. Using a decrypted IPA file, which is readily available online, is one approach. Using a premium developer account, which runs $99 a year, is the alternative.
